Scuttlebutt - July Series 2010

Sailing July 24 2010Saturday, July 24. Katy took my iPhone and used the Motion-X GPS app to track their progress in the race. And Betsy and Katy won, to boot. Elasped time: 1:18; Average speed 3.5 mph; Max. speed 5.8 mph; Distance 4.55 miles.

For those unfamiliar with the lake/course, the race starts at the green icon, goes through the eventual finish (red icon), then southeast, then northwest, then a long ESE leg, back around the starting mark, and finishing at the red icon. Winds are variable and shifting on these inland lakes, but generally the prevailing wind comes out of the N or NW. You can see the zigzag tacking in the upper left corner and the upper right as the boat needs to sail into the wind to reach that turning mark.
